With processing speed growing more and more, traditional hardware have been ported to the software side and one perfect example of successful implementation are software synthesizers. Designed to replace a costly hardware counterpart, you can create on your own PC sounds or music within more convenient interface and some of the times at no cost at all. This is exactly the case with SynthFont.
SynthFont provides users with a powerful, feature rich and free of charge software synthesizer. With this tool you will be able to play Midi files via SoundFonts while using a behavior similar to hardware/sound cards like SoundBlaster Live! or Audigy.
The application offers an interface generous in capabilities that grants the user with full control over all settings from an intuitive and well designed layout. SynthFont is able to manage arrangement settings for each midi file in an arrangement file. A typical arrangement setting is the selection of SoundFonts. The application is also able to work with other sound files, such as Gigasampler. The internal sound engine can easily be replaced by a VST instrument.
There are multiple panes within the interface available in a tab like manner: files, pianoroll, events, tracks, splits, wave panes.
The application can manage multiple items within an arrangement file. The file itself is in txt format and can be read and edited with any editor. The items stored in the file are file version, midi file path, tracks to play (not muted), active tracks (all events handled), midi channel to VST bus, locked presets, left and right volume, VST Effects for all busses, piano roll markers, play start from and stop at, number of additional audio tracks, for each track: sound source and mixer data.
