The Magic packets is used by wake on lan software in order to send information about the destination computer via the MAC address without having to know the direct IP or DNS. If you are constantly working with virtual machines, magic packets may come in handy for starting them up and here is an application that implements just that - Wake-On-Lan Virtual Machine.
The application has a quite self explanatory name to fully explain its purpose; it sets out to help users start up one or more virtual machines from within a well designed and simple to use interface. For this, it uses magic packets and features supports for multiple types of virtual machines as follows: Microsoft Hyper-V, Windows Virtual PC, Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, Oracle VM VirtualBox, VMware Server, VMware Workstation and VMware Player.
The installation is quite straightforward and as soon as you run the application, Wake-On-LAN Virtual Machine will start looking for existing virtual machines. After locating them, the utility will display them comprehensively in the main interface in a tree style structure.
Wake-On-LAN Virtual Machine may also run as a Windows service and will provide the means for saving logs, exporting the virtual machine list, starting and stopping them at any time.
Wake-On-LAN Virtual Machine is especially useful when it comes to hardware limitations; it allows you to turn on a specific virtual machine in order to keep the resources running at optimum performance.
Wake-On-LAN Virtual Machine is compatible with multiple Windows systems including XP, 2003, Vista, XP, 2008, 7 for both 32 and 64 bit versions.
